About Our Firm

The Backstory

The story of Mason Firm grew out of one immigrant-woman’s dream who always wanted to be a lawyer in America. She started her legal career as a litigator suing insurance companies and representing personal injury clients in South Florida. But, although she liked litigation, she felt empty and unfilled because she wanted to practice entertainment and business law and that was not happening in Florida. So, she did what so many artists and entertainers had done before her, she packed her bags and headed for the New York City because if she could make it there, she could make it anywhere.

When she got to New York City, what she found was a legal market that was unforgiving with barriers to entry to become an entertainment lawyer. She observed that in many cases, even though they were represented, entertainers were still getting a raw deal. She discovered a community of entrepreneurs in film, TV and in creative businesses who were conducting business on hand shakes and a lawyer was seldom in the picture. She met entertainment professionals who felt lawyers were never there when they needed them and did not understand them.

She did not want to be just another lawyer collecting a fee without knowing her clients personally. She did not want her clients to be just another file number. She wanted to make a real difference in her clients’ lives. Becoming part of their team, their trusted advisor who looked out for their best interests and make sure they were well protected. So, when she could not find a firm to match the way she wanted to practice law, she decided to form her own law firm to deliver legal services with a personal touch.

The Mason Firm Difference

At first, we were primarily using the billable hour model but soon realized that this system is broken. Clients were afraid to talk to us to keep us in the loop for fear of a large bill. In one instance, one client did not contact us before making a deal and only had a handshake to show for it. When things fell apart, the client contacted us to try and resolve the issue. It ended up costing the client $6,000 more than if we had been contacted initially. This was not the business model we wanted. We wanted to serve clients in a way that we have open and honest communications without worrying about what the bill would be at the end of the month and value is placed on developing the relationship with the client. In order to do this and to better sever clients, we adopted a flat fee billing system for most of our services so we can focus on servicing the needs of our clients and not worry about tracking time. Clients also benefit because they know exactly what their legal bill would be – there are no surprises.


Second, we have been in the entertainment and business space for over 16 years and have developed meaningful connections. We then leverage those connections to assist our clients. When one of our clients was searching for investors for his business, we sent him an invite to attend an event that connected entrepreneurs and investors. Finally, we have a deep understanding of the laws and business of the entertainment industry and was able to use that knowledge to our clients’ advantage.
